Rash Utsav

Rash Festival of Panchetgarh

Royal Faith • Living Vaishnava Tradition

Rash Yatra is dedicated to the divine love of Lord Krishna and His eternal consort Radha. Rooted deeply in Vaishnava philosophy, this sacred festival is observed across Bengal and parts of Odisha with profound devotion and ceremonial grandeur.

Panchetgarh Rash Mela

A 400-year-old royal tradition and the largest religious gathering in Purba Midnapore, preserved with unwavering devotion by the Panchetgarh Raj Parivar.

In Bengal, Rash Yatra holds a revered place in regions such as Nabadwip, Coochbehar, Midnapore and the Sundarban belt. In neighbouring Odisha, Rash Utsav flourished particularly in Balasore district, where Vaishnava practices left an indelible spiritual imprint.

Following the adoption of Vaishnavism under the influence of the Bhakti movement of Sri Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Rash Mela of Panchetgarh and its Zamindari estates in Bhograi, Balasore, emerged as a grand spiritual institution that continues uninterrupted till date.

During Rash Purnima, the deities of the Panchetgarh Raj Parivar — manifestations of Lord Krishna led by Sri Sri Kishorai Jiue and His consort Radha Devi — leave their mandirs in majestic royal processions. Adorned in full regal attire, they proceed to the Rash Manch for the sacred Rash Leela, a spectacle of devotion and heritage.

The four sacred days of Rash Utsav are followed by a grand ten-day Rash Mela, hosting nearly 400 to 500 stalls showcasing village handicrafts, brass and kansha ware, agricultural tools, traditional foods and beverages — making it a major cultural and economic event for the entire region.

A timeless celebration where faith, royalty and community converge.
